MINUTES:  2002 MEMBERS’ MEETING,
JUNE 5th, PARIS, FRANCE

The meeting was opened by Ingeborg Rossow (president) and Tom Greenfield (vice-president)

  1. The minutes of the general assembly meeting in Toronto June 2001 were approved.

  2. Report on the Paris conference. This was given by Marie Choquet on behalf of the local organizing committee. The conference had 157 participants from more than 20 countries. (xx? attendees were given partial support from KBS funds. The final figures for the cost of the conference are not yet in but it appears that these were in line with the original budget). One hundred and two (102) papers were presented and not all of these  arrived in time to be uploaded to the conference Web site. Neither did all abstracts arrive by the deadline set for abstracts. As ever a lot of work was required to process abstracts and format papers for the Web. Abstracts and papers that arrived after the deadline and those that did not follow the guidelines were especially troublesome.  Clearer guidelines and a stricter adherence to the published deadlines will be recommended to future conference organizers.

  3. Report from KBS treasurer: Trygve Ugland described the financial situation as considerably healthier than the previous year, owing to the successful campaign at the last meeting and by e-mail to secure payments from members.   As of May 2002 there were 212 members (as compared to 295 member by May 2001). Members can pay fees for several years in advance, and those lacking behind with paying membership fees are considered members for some time. The payment status of members in May 2002 was as follows:

1998:             4
1999:             18
2000:             36
2001:             58
2002:             47
2003:             43
2004:             4
2005:             1
2006:             1

After the Toronto meeting there was 1,810 USD on the KBS account. From the Toronto meeting to the Paris meeting membership fees have brought in a total of 6,161 USD. Further, closing of the Finish account added another 1,915 USD, and hence a total of 9,886 USD were on the KBS account before the Paris meeting. Out of this the local organizers in Paris got 4,000 USD, and 74 USD were used for gifts to the local organizers in Toronto, leaving a total of 5,812 USD on the account before the Krakow meeting. The issue of the increase in dues was again discussed.
